If you are bringing your cat in for vaccines and they are anxious, stressed, and have a difficult time traveling, ask us about our Comfort Care Package! You can purchase this package for $5. This package includes a Gabapentin capsule, Churu treat, and instruction/informational sheet about the Gabapentin. This is for cats that are coming back in for surgery at a later date.
What are the VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS to bring my cat for surgery? When should I schedule their spay/neuter surgery?
Pet kittens are REQUIRED to be vaccinated for FVRCP (also called Distemper/Panleukopenia or 3-way vaccine) prior to their surgery appointment. They should receive the FVRCP vaccine every 2-4 weeks until they are 5 months old. We generally perform surgery on pet kittens at 6 months of age. Two FVRCP vaccines are required prior to surgery with one given at 16 weeks of age or later.
Adult pet cats, who have not been vaccinated as kittens, need two FVRCP vaccines 2-4 weeks a part, and the second one administered 2 weeks or longer before surgery.
Friendly adult FARM cats need two FVRCP vaccines 2-4 weeks a part, and the second one administered 2 weeks or longer before surgery.
Feral cats and feral kittens who are afraid of humans are exempt from the vaccine requirements. These animals should be transported to our surgery clinic in live traps. There is a significant risk of developing contagious disease when these unvaccinated cats leave their home environment for surgery.
We do not require a Rabies vaccine prior to surgery.
Note: FVRCP vaccine requirements vary widely and your regular family veterinarian may use a different protocol. Our requirements are very strict because we have 50 cats sharing the same air space on surgery days. In addition, our protocols may change over time due to new studies and disease trends.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for pop-up vaccine clinics and times!
